Penguin Updates: 44 New Native Linux Games Arrive on Steam
In the first week of September, the Linux gaming community received a notable boost: 44 new games with native clients were released on Steam. While this number represents about 9.6% of the total Windows releases during the same period (458 games), it demonstrates the continuous and vibrant activity in the penguin’s gaming ecosystem.
Although considered a slow week, with bigger releases expected later in the month, there are a few gems that deserve attention. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights:
SPLATTERBOT
- Genre: Action, Casual
- About: Get ready for chaos! In this local multiplayer for up to 4 players, cleaning robots have gone rogue, and the goal is to make the biggest mess possible. Use the environment and power-ups to overwhelm your opponents in a competition of untidiness. Perfect for a game night with friends on the couch.
THE LAST CRAFTSMAN
- Genre: Adventure, RPG, Simulation
- About: A cozy RPG where you settle in the town of Gear Springs. Gather materials, craft items, go fishing, and battle it out using a “punch card” system in a ruined facility. The ultimate goal is to stop the last Craftsman and save the town. It seems like an interesting mix of
Stardew Valley
with a unique battle mechanic.
WARLORDOCRACY
- Genre: Action, RPG, Strategy
- About: This one is ambitious. It starts as a real-time with pause (RTWP) party-based RPG but gradually expands into a large-scale strategy game as you recruit soldiers and gain fame (or infamy). A premise that might appeal to fans of series like
Mount & Blade
.
ROAD TRIP TO THE END OF THE WORLD (Free)
- Genre: Visual Novel, Casual
- About: A narrative game about the end of a friendship. Andy and her imaginary friend Fishy embark on a road trip to crash their ex-best friend’s wedding. A bittersweet and introspective premise, and best of all: it’s free.
These are just a few examples of the diversity of titles arriving natively on Linux. The full list includes dozens of other indie games, from puzzles to adventures, showing that the platform is more alive than ever.
